Features / QR phone upload

Let visitors upload from their phone — straight into your desktop form

The document your visitor needs is usually on their phone: a photo of an ID, a scanned contract, a receipt. CrossUpload adds an “Upload from your phone” option to your existing upload control. The visitor scans a QR code with the phone camera, picks the file, taps Send, and it appears in the form on the computer a few seconds later.

The problem

  • Visitors message files to themselves on WhatsApp or email, download them on the computer, then hunt for them in the Downloads folder.
  • Every extra step is a moment where people abandon a long form.
  • Files shared through chat apps are compressed, renamed and scattered across personal accounts.

How CrossUpload helps

Scan with the camera

The QR code opens a lightweight hosted page in the phone browser. No app install and no CrossUpload login.

See where the file is going

The phone page shows your website name and domain, the allowed file types and the size limit before anything is sent.

Gallery, Files or camera

Visitors choose from the photo gallery or the Files app using native browser pickers; the camera option is offered where the browser supports it.

Appears on the desktop

The desktop modal updates in real time over an authenticated event stream, with polling as a fallback.

Single-use pairing

Each QR contains a short-lived, single-redemption pairing secret. After a phone connects, the same QR cannot pair another device.

Typical documents

ID card and passport photos Signed PDF contracts Receipts and invoices Photos of damage or products Bank statements Certificates

Camera and file-picker behaviour is provided by the phone’s browser and can differ between iOS and Android.
If your site is already open on a phone, CrossUpload prioritises local file selection instead of asking the visitor to scan a QR code on the same device.

Questions

Does the visitor need to install an app?

No. The QR code opens a normal web page in the phone’s browser.

Can someone else use the QR code?

The QR pairs exactly one phone and expires after a few minutes. Once redeemed it cannot pair another device, and it never grants access to other files or to your account.

What if the QR code expires?

The modal shows “QR code expired. Refresh.” and the visitor can generate a new one with one click while the upload window is open.
